Intentionally Shaping Culture In the past, I’ve been lucky to work with renowned culture expert Corrine Canter. Most workplace cultures develop organically. However, this article from Corrine is a valuable reminder in the importance of deliberately designing and cultivating your workplace culture. The easiest way to think about culture is to understand “how things get done around here”. If you have a good sense of that you will have a good sense of whether your current culture is what’s needed to help you achieve your most important business goals and deliverables. As you consider your organisation's culture, reflect on: What stories are commonly shared about working here? What behaviours do employees find are rewarded or overlooked? How does the organisation respond during a crisis, such as a workplace incident? How do employees experience and react to changes at work? How are employees supported during the moments that matter most to them? How easily can team members access the resources and support they need? What do employees focus on, and what tends to be ignored? What aspects do employees see management focusing on, and what do they seem to overlook?
